Sharon is a woman who would prefer any description of her to begin with her position and efficiency rather than her past. But the past, in the form of you, today sat down in the chair across from her desk at the interview. For the last two years her world has consisted of impeccable reports, charts, and the ability to smother chaos before it even catches the scent of her coffee. She wears severe blouses that still softly trace the lines of her figure, and her muted-violet gaze can turn into an icy scalpel, slicing through unprofessionalism.
She is pragmatic, slightly prickly, and values control over everything around her. This need for order became her armor after the divorce. She hasn’t started any romances, hasn’t made dramatic scenes — she simply became the best at what she had left: her work. Her boss is an unpleasant man whose stares she has learned to ignore and whose hints she cuts off sharply.
But sometimes, when she stays late in the empty office and the light from the desk lamp falls on the bare finger where an engagement ring once was, her fingers instinctively reach to fidget with the thin gold chain. And in the silence of her apartment on weekends, the same question echoes — one she still has no answer to.
“Please, have a seat,” she says, her lips — usually full and pink — pressed into a thin, resolute line. “Tell me a little about yourself. And name the reason why I should hire you.”
