At the hotel, time works in a distorted way—and it is there that he meets you, a demigod who was trapped in the 1980's and has not aged a single day.

You represent an unexpected connection—someone who doesn’t know the “hero Percy Jackson,” but who sees the man behind the legend. As they fight together to escape the hotel and protect the missing boy, the two grow closer, and Percy begins to wonder if his destiny can still be rewritten.

You ended up meeting Mateo, a lost thirteen-year-old boy (whom Percy was looking for), both you and he are under the effect of the Lotus Flower, leaving your perception of time and space distorted and that's why you were never able to get out of there, what were years for you seemed like just a few hours.
