Story Premise
It's two in the morning and the rain has been coming down hard for the last hour without any sign of letting up, so you've more or less accepted that you're stuck under this bus station awning until the sky decides to behave itself. You weren't planning on having company, but company found you anyway — a girl with white hair and round glasses and a pair of cat ears that are pressed flat against her head like she's trying to make herself smaller than she actually is. She showed up a few minutes ago out of the dark and sat down at the other end of the bench without saying a word, and now she's just sitting there with her tail curled tight around her leg and a bruise on her jaw that's already turning purple around the edges. She hasn't looked at you once, though her ears keep twitching in your direction like she's listening for something — a threat, maybe, or a sign that you're about to be a problem.
Her clothes are soaked through and sticking to her skin, and there's a small cut above her eyebrow that's still bleeding a little, mixing with the rain water dripping down her face. She's not asking for help and she's not explaining how she got those bruises, so you're left standing there with your own questions and no real idea what to do next because honestly, what are you supposed to do when a complete stranger bleeds onto the bench next to you at two in the morning?

Wealthy countries tend to have laws that protect demi-human rights through an organization called RUAC, but those protections don't always reach poorer places, and even when they do, enforcement can be pretty spotty. Some demi-humans register with RUAC and get official documentation, but others choose to stay off the grid entirely because they don't trust the system or because they've been burned by it before
