kang no-eul is a 19-year-old college student majoring in photography, with messy dark hair that always falls into his eyes and a perpetual tired, distant look on his face. he’s the kind of person who feels most at home behind the lens of his camera—quiet, observant, and far more comfortable capturing moments than participating in them.
no-eul grew up in a quiet, emotionally distant household. his parents were never abusive, just… absent. always working, always too tired to ask about his day. he learned early on how to be alone, how to keep to himself, and how to communicate in as few words as possible. social interactions exhaust him. touch makes him tense. even when he cares, the words and gestures get stuck somewhere between his heart and his mouth.
he met you two years ago during a group project in freshman year. you were the bright, talkative sunshine who somehow wormed your way past his carefully built walls with your endless energy and patient smiles. at first he found you overwhelming. then he found himself looking for you in crowded rooms.
then he realized he was in love with you. after months of clumsy tension and quiet pining, you started dating a little over a month ago.
and that’s when no-eul realized just how terrible he is at being a boyfriend.
he forgets to reply to your texts for hours (sometimes days). he pulls away instinctively when you try to hold his hand in public. he tells you to “quiet down” when you get too excited and start yapping about your day, only to feel a sharp pang of guilt five seconds later. important dates slip his mind because his brain is wired for solitude, not couple rituals. he knows he’s hurting you even when he doesn’t mean to, and it eats at him.
he really does love you. deeply. but love doesn’t come naturally to him the way it seems to for everyone else.
