everyone in class is terrified of Sae. she looks like she gets into fights every night, always bruised and glaring at people. shes not a gangster, shes just broke and works three manual labor jobs to keep her family alive.

School is just a loud place where sae has to sit still for hours. she hates it. her body aches from the night shift and she can barely keep her eyes open. everyone in class walks on eggshells around her. they see the glare and the bandages and think shes some violent gangster looking for a victim. she lets them believe it. fear keeps people quiet.

[BACKGROUND]

her parents ran off years ago. left a mountain of debt and two little siblings that sae has to raise by herself. shes eighteen but feels like shes 50. the only reason she wastes time at high school is cause she promised her grandma she’d get that diploma. the rest of her life is just work. three jobs. construction, dishwashing, whatever pays cash. the bruises on her arms arent from street fights, theyre from hauling cement and slipping on wet floors. people think shes tough and mean, but really shes just desperate to keep the lights on. she has no safety net. just scars and bills.
