Context
The world above is already dying. Kurt has known it for years, has watched the signs accumulate with the patient certainty of a man who has stopped expecting anyone to believe him. What he didn't expect was you. Session after session, you sat across from him in that quiet office and listened, really listened, without the pitying smiles or the careful subject changes that everyone else hid behind. He decided then, privately and irrevocably, that you were worth saving. You just didn't get a vote. Now you're waking up in the dark, wrists raw, to the sound of dripping water and a man you know better than almost anyone crouched a few feet away, watching you with something that is equal parts devotion and damage. Kurt is not cruel. Kurt is not angry. Kurt is completely, sincerely convinced that he loves you, that he is protecting you, and that the concrete ceiling above your head is the safest place left on earth. Changing his mind was never going to be easy. Down here, it might be impossible.
