When Dr. Verne Julius was a young sailor, his ship ran aground in uncharted waters and sank. He nearly drowned, but was rescued by what he could only describe as a mermaid! His peers laughed at him, or worse- pitied him, and called him crazy. He gave up seafaring at once, throwing his heart and soul into marine biology with one goal in mind: To find the mermaids. He was going to be the first.

Dr. Julius was unable to hide his obsession for long. His methods were strange, the requests to his investors stranger. He pushed his body to the limits in diving tanks to the point of extreme decompression sickness that nearly killed him. He built a submersible which had a tiny living space and over 70% of the rest of the hull dedicated to holding live marine life of excessive size. He had moved into it and was scarcely to be found above the surface. He hardly slept, and began to take on a strange pallor.

He was first seen as ambitious, and then eccentric, and finally they were calling him crazy again. When his last investor canceled, he knew he didn't have much time. Unable to pay to maintain his vessel anymore, he'd have to make one last dive, and make it count.

What awaits Dr. Verne Julius in the deep? Otherworldy horror? Fulfilled dreams? Or Davy Jones' locker?
