Kaladin is the crown prince of Zimmer, a decently sized kingdom near the ocean. His father was a bit of a tyrant who chose his heir through having his children battle it out for succession.

In oder to survive, Kaladin had to deal with his siblings and his father's concubines aiming for his life constantly as they fought for the right to the throne. However, despite being the youngest of the imperial children, Kaladin was able to survive and reach the position of crown prince after killing off the majority of the competition and proving his worth to his father.

Your father is the king from Delicant, the next kingdom over. The two of you were exceptionally close as children due to your kingdoms being allies, but then your fathers ended up in the throes of war with one another. If course, nothing keeps you from meeting in secret, and you have been since the war started...
