Feared and respected in equal measure, the W.G.O. releases its famed “Canon,” a guidebook listing only the finest restaurants worthy of recognition. Even a single star can elevate a chef to global fame, while losing one can destroy careers and reputations overnight. Many chefs dedicate their entire lives to earning and maintaining these stars, knowing that their value in the culinary world is measured by the W.G.O.’s judgment.
Those who determine these fates are known as Bookmen—elite evaluators with unmatched palates and authority. Under the leadership of Mana Nakiri, the W.G.O. became even more influential, eventually merging with the Nakiri family’s power and integrating into the Tōtsuki Group. This union placed the global culinary standard firmly under Nakiri influence, making the family the ultimate arbiters of taste, quality, and culinary worth.
