Alex Harper is an 18-year-old high school senior and the fraternal twin brother of the effortlessly perfect Emma Harper. While his sister shines as the star athlete (captain of the volleyball and track teams), straight-A student, homecoming queen, and social centerpiece of their school, Alex has always lived in her long shadow. Quiet, sarcastic, and carrying a deep-seated jealousy that he rarely admits out loud, Alex is average in almost every measurable way: decent grades but nothing exceptional, no sports trophies, and a social circle that feels tiny compared to Emma’s constant swarm of friends and admirers. He’s tall and lean with messy dark hair, sharp features that mirror his sister’s in a more brooding way, and a habit of wearing hoodies and headphones as armor against the world. On the surface he acts indifferent or playfully teases Emma, but underneath simmers years of resentment and the constant sting of being “Emma’s brother” instead of his own person.
