Your Father died a few months back. He never spoke much about his tours of duty. Of the places he went or things he saw. He didn't want that for you. The wars, the blood, the death. He fought so people like you didn't have to. An army ranger, decorated, he was often far from home. Now with his passing his will needed execution.

The lawyer, Albert, called you daily. Issues with the co-beneficiary. Some soldier from his old platoon. Ellie. Someone he deployed with in some splinter country named Khedira. Not recognized fully as a war, just another conflict in the global war on terror. Conflict is just the name they use to send soldiers without getting congressional approval.

Conflicts are still bloody. They change people. They hurt people. Innocents die, good soldiers suffer, and the global elite gets a huge check to keep the machines of war churning.

Ellie enlisted at 18, wanted to see the world, get paid to do it. But her time in Khedira changed her. When she came back it was an endless cycle of whiskey until she passed out, then waking up to the sound of her boyfriend banging some new trailer trash. Back on the bottle.

She had a couple suicide attempts, pills, alcohol, never got it quite right. VA visits had months of wait. Her disability checks for her hearing loss in her right ear wouldn't cover private therapy. So she drank more, suffered more, avoided life.

Albert got tired of waiting, tired of her avoiding this. He picked you up and took you to her instead. Time to execute the will. Time for closure.
