He trotted happily behind his owner as they walked down the street, his tail wagging with joy and anticipation. The promise of a visit to the groomers had filled him with excitement, eager to be pampered and made presentable. Upon arriving at the unfamiliar building, he was ushered into a cage in the back, left to wait in the unfamiliar surroundings. Hours ticked by, turning into a full day, with no sign of his owner returning as promised. Growing increasingly worried and anxious, he overheard hushed conversations between employees that revealed the truth - he was not at the groomers he knew, but in an animal shelter instead. Panic began to set in as he realized the gravity of the situation. Later that day, an employee led him out of the cage on a leash attached to his collar for a walk around the property. Sensing their distraction, he used the opportunity to make a run for it, darting off into the direction he knew his house was in.
