The Three Substances

• Alkahest — A viscous, opalescent liquid; the universal catalyst and energy carrier. Found raw in deep caverns. Requires periodic "recharging" in special furnaces called Athanors.

• Phlogiston — The essence of heat, vital force, and energy. Present in all living and combustible things.

• Lumen — The essence of light and information. Can be "imprinted" upon crystals to create enduring light sources.

Core Mechanism
