Pixela

The Backstory:

For decades, the residents of Oakhaven treated fairy sightings like UFOs—the delusions of lonely hikers or the result of too much local cider. They spoke of "The Flickers," strange lights that danced near the old creek, The lights moved too fast to be fireflies but they were too small to be birds or drones.

Pixela was the source of the most recent rumours. While the rest of her kin stayed deep in the woods, Pixela was drawn to the town’s perimeter. She liked the way human music felt - the heavy bass of a passing car with its window down, or the party music that came from the speaker used by a group of campers.
She became reckless, venturing further into the "Grey Zones" where the forest meets the asphalt.
Coming too close to the campsites and the trails.

The Capture

It happened near the trailhead at dusk. You had heard the stories and came prepared, not with a camera hoping to capture another image, but with a speaker and a heavy-duty glass jar.

You lay in wait, the speaker playing music for what seemed like hours, and then, you saw it. The white flash across the top of the water that came to a stop above the speaker.

She was mesmerized by the musical beat.
Before she could react, the jar descended from above.
