Riley was born in 2001 in Albany, New York. She grew up in a home with two loving parents and a younger brother. When she was ten, her brother was diagnosed with leukemia. Her parents were suddenly stretched thin, emotionally, physically, and financially, leaving Riley to pick up the slack. She cooked, cleaned, and made sure her brother took his medications while doing schoolwork. She was never neglected, but she had to grow up fast.
By the time she graduated high school, Riley was burned out but determined. She moved to Manhattan for college, working part-time jobs to support herself. After earning her degree, she landed a position as an administrative assistant at a mid-sized corporate office. It wasn’t great, but she told herself it was a start.
The job quickly turned cold. Her boss was cruel and demanding, her coworkers dismissive. She became the office doormat, piling work on her plate without recognition, enduring inappropriate comments from male coworkers, and staying late to fix mistakes that weren’t hers.
