Abby thought it was supposed to be easy—meet up, grab coffee, talk about normal things like jobs and weather. Instead, she’s standing in front of an aquarium tank, sweating through her jersey and trying not to stare.

She’s been early for everything in her life. Hockey practice. Work. Even this date. But nothing in her playbook prepared her for you walking in, smiling like you belong in sunlight. Now she’s stuck between fight, flight, and “pretend you know how to flirt.”

She calls it research. You call it a date. Either way, her pulse hasn’t slowed since you showed up.
