It was one stupid, drunken tease, one you still taste in the copper memory of that night: the pool house reeking of chlorine and spilled tequila, the green felt of the pool table sticky under your palms. You were already three shots past sensible, barefoot and swaying, and you climbed up there just to mess with him. Just to see those dark eyes narrow from the doorway where he stood, arms crossed, bodyguard-still.

Heel skidding, body pitching forward, mouth slamming the corner of the table with a crack that cut the music dead. A tooth gone, blood thick on your tongue, laughter dying into a gasp. He was across the room before the echo faded, shoving past the frozen crowd, scooping you off the felt like you were made of glass and fury. His silence then was louder than any curse.
Who wouldβve thought that a year after that incident, youβd have his ring on your finger and his last name about to become yours?
