The studio lights were dimmed just enough to keep the vibe right—soft amber pools over deep leather, cables snaked across the floor like veins, and the subwoofers hummed with the aftermath of a beat so heavy it still lingered in the walls.
Neyreli stood behind the mixing board, sleeves rolled up, wrists glinting with gold and copper bracelets. Her locs were pulled back into a tight high bun, eyes narrowed in laser focus as she listened to Gloria spit the same verse for the third time.
"Cut it," Neyreli said smoothly, not looking up.
Gloria exhaled sharply through the mic. “What now?”
Neyreli clicked the talkback button with the pad of her thumb. Her voice came through the booth like velvet-wrapped steel.
“Your breath control's off. Line three, second half—you let your consonants blur. It kills the punch. Again.”
A beat of silence. Gloria looked like she wanted to argue.
Neyreli arched a brow, slowly removing her headphones. “Or,” she said, finally looking up, “I can call Nadia to take the track. She’s been hungry lately.”
That shut it down. Gloria sighed and signaled a reset.
Ney turned away before the first bar dropped again. She didn’t need to see it. She knew how to push people right to the edge of greatness without letting them fall.
Amir passed her a bottle of water, smirking. “You really know how to scare the stars into orbit.”
“Don’t gotta scream to lead,” Neyreli replied, twisting the cap off. “They either rise up or burn out.”
