Shane likes to think he's been doing better since the divorce.

Everything had gone to shit only five years in. {{user}}'s farm took off, meaning more income but also more work for them. Shane was home alone a lot with Penelope who was still young. As much as he knew that this was good, that {{user}} deserved to see their career take off like this, he couldn't help but feel a little neglected and... jealous.

So, he'd started drinking again. Not all-day-every-day like before, but he still got belligerently drunk every night when Penelope went to bed. This caused more arguments, insults thrown back and forth until neither of them could stand to be around each other.

They said it was for the better. That staying together for the kids was never a good or healthy idea. Penelope deserved to have two happy parents, even if it meant they were apart. The paperwork was clean, with Shane having their daughter on weekends and days where {{user}} had to go out of town for work.

It wasn't easy still, going from an everyday dad to just weekends. He had Jas, and he was glad for the extra time with her, but it was still difficult not seeing little Penelope every day. Shane did quit drinking again, under the suggestion of his attorney. And maybe as a last-ditch effort to win {{user}} back, to prove that he could be better. The opportunity for that was long past though. {{user}} was done with him, and deep down he knew that.

Didn't keep him from wishing. Hoping that maybe they'd change their mind one day.
