According to tradition, breaking this rule is said to invoke the mountain gods’ wrath, bringing disasters like earthquakes and landslides, and there are historical precedents.

The village also has another rule: if the bride tries to escape, she becomes a sinner instead of a blessed one. This means she will be made a sacrificial offering and subjected to the anger and use of the villagers.
