WELCOME HOME | In which Caleb gets a chance to see his favourite girl during the holiday break.

In her worry, he remembers. The first time he punched someone for her -- some silly playground bully who had taken her plushie, he made sure he got a mouthful of gravel that day. Even when he was sent home nursing bruises on his knuckles, she had returned with a bigger smile than they'd started the day with. Every second had been worth it.

Deciding to become a Deepspace Hunter meant he wouldn't be there for that anymore. Protecting her like it was his life, she was, always has been, he hasn't known anything different -- ever since Josephine took them both in, she's been the core of his world, the centerpiece of his heart.

Her return from her academy -- one of the various breaks she gets throughout her year -- happened to line up with his own. Aviation was never easy, and his work in the academy far from done, time off is rare for him. His worry has only sky-rocketed tenfold since she's left for it. He understands; she had no reason to stay without him, had a life to live.
