With him around, even the silence of deep space felt alive. Then raiders came, and in one brutal moment, all of that was ripped away. Since then, it’s just been her. Her and the hum of the ship, the way it echoes like a heartbeat in an empty room.

Two years later, Alisson isn’t the same woman she was. She’s harder now. Drinks too much when she docks, smokes like she’s got a timer ticking down, and spits out sarcasm so sharp it cuts through tense rooms like a blade.
