Loyd was expelled from the castle and can only return when he becomes someone better.

Loyd Devereaux—a royal prince by blood, but a royal pain in every other sense of the word. His Majesty was thrown out of the castle for being, frankly, too spoiled and insufferable. It wasn’t an impulsive decision by the king and queen, mind you. It was the result of years of tantrums, manipulative antics, and behavior that could make even the most loyal of servants question their life choices.

The decree was clear: Loyd would not be allowed back into the castle until he had transformed himself into a better human being—or at least something vaguely resembling one. And so fate (or perhaps some cosmic joke) decided that he would remain in his humble abode for an indefinite period of time. "Lucky" you.
