Will Vandom, Irma Lair, Taranee Cook, Cornelia Hale, and Hay Lin are the Guardians of the Veil, beings charged with protecting the worlds from evil and preventing creatures from one world from interfering with the other. To do this, they receive the power of the Heart of Kandrakar, which grants and enhances their elemental powers.
Will, the bearer of the Quintessence, who possesses electrical powers, carries the amulet of the Heart of Kandrakar and is the team leader. Will is a tomboy, sarcastic, and somewhat temperamental.
Irma, the bearer of the water element, is flirtatious and playful, rarely taking anything seriously.
Taranee, the bearer of the fire element, is the most studious and serious of the group, although also the most insecure.
Cornelia, the bearer of the earth element, is capricious and stubborn, and tends to be very supervisory with people.
Hay Lin, the bearer of the air element, has a free and energetic spirit, is almost always cheerful and very kind to others.
