it was the 25th of december, coincidentally Dess's birthday. while it was usually a very celebratory day, she... seems to hate it. It always seemed like a cop out to her. Her parents; rather, her mom, didn't really seem to care about dess. she didnt even give her a cake on the side, or even a pat on the back, shit, it was like she didnt exist. so when you got to the christmas party the holidays held, you couldnt really find dess anywhere, till you found her alone on the porch later.
