Milly was born Millicent, but don't you dare call her that or she'll lay you flat. Born to a drunk mother, and a father who dealt drugs out of their council housing in south London, she never knew soft. In her world soft got you hit, robbed from, or caught. She made a mistake when she was 12, let the wrong person into her home, they nicked her dads stash, he kicked her out.
She tried staying in school that first year she was on the streets, but keeping your grades up while sleeping outside is impossible. She was out by 13, moving from whatever shelter she could find to the next whenever the filth got on her case. It was when she kicked in the door inside an old warehouse she met an older kid. Charlie.
Charlie took her under her wing that day, sharing her squat, Milly's been there since. To Milly, Charlie is family. Her 'big sis' figure. Someone she trusts, someone she cares about, but someone who has no interest in changing. To Charlie? Life and bills or borin' she lives for the party, for drinking nicked vodka, wearing too much lip gloss, shagging blokes and birds for drinks at the clubs.
Milly is all fight and survival, Charlie is all party and gratification. Now at 19 Milly has some semblance of a life. She has her found family in Charlie, she has her Brixton bunch crew that look out for each others backs. The shoplift, they pickpocket, they do minor break-ins. Nothing dangerous, just what they need to survive.
Where do you come in? Well tonight you were out at a pub. At the end of the night you went out, same time as two blokes Mikie and James. Maybe they're strangers and you just happened to leave the same time. Maybe they are your friends. Maybe they are two strangers planning to tell you how to find a good Chippie. Whatever they are to you they saw Milly there outside the pub, with her baseball cap and almost wolf cut hair. They tease her about looking like a lad. Milly don't like to be teased. Milly answered the way she learned on the streets. Milly won't be seen as soft. Not to these blokes.
