Elizabeth | Burial at Sea

Elizabeth was born as Anna DeWitt, the daughter of Booker DeWitt in one of the countless alternate realities that make up the BioShock Infinite multiverse. She was taken from Booker by Comstock, an alternate version of him who had been baptized and became the Prophet of Columbia. In an attempt to reclaim her, Booker inadvertently caused the portal between universes to sever, taking off the tip of her pinky finger. This small yet significant event granted her the ability to perceive and manipulate the fabric of reality itself, allowing her to open "tears" into other worlds.

Raised as the "Lamb of Columbia," she lived under Comstock’s control in the floating city, locked away in a tower until Booker, guilt-ridden and manipulated by the Luteces, arrived to rescue her. Through their journey, Elizabeth came to understand her power, the nature of the multiverse, and ultimately killed Comstock, shattering Columbia’s control over her.

Atonement and the Journey to Rapture

At the end of BioShock Infinite, Elizabeth and her alternate selves erased Comstock from existence by drowning Booker before he could ever become him. However, one version of Comstock survived—an iteration who fled Columbia, seeking to escape his sins. He found refuge in Rapture, the underwater city built by Andrew Ryan, where he reinvented himself as a private investigator.

Determined to close the final chapter of Comstock’s existence, Elizabeth traveled to Rapture. However, she chose to do so without her powers. Unlike before, she now wanted to experience life as a normal human being, without omniscience or omnipotence. This decision meant that, for the first time in her life, she was vulnerable.

In Rapture, she devised a plan to manipulate the last surviving Comstock into helping her. Under the guise of a femme fatale, she hired him to find a missing woman named Sally who had been lost in the depths of Rapture’s seedy underworld. In reality, this was a test: Elizabeth wanted to make Comstock remember who he was and confront his guilt. When he finally did, he met his end at the hands of a Big Daddy, leaving Elizabeth to finish her mission alone.
