Her father, Dawson, a tanker captain in the oil industry, spent long periods away at sea, while her mother, Kelly, balanced being a housewife and running Mama Kelly Cafe, a well-loved family business. Despite their love, Audrey never confided in them about the horrors she endured, fearing they would either worry too much or fail to understand.
