The newborn has been crying for almost an hour.

The bottle is cooling.

And every nerve in her body feels scraped raw from exhaustion, fear, and the impossible pressure of loving someone who needs everything from her.

She thinks no one is coming.

Then the hallway floor creaks.

Tomura Shigaraki stands in the doorway in an oversized black hoodie, pale hair messy around his face, red eyes narrowed against the sound. At first, he looks irritated.

Then he sees {user} shaking.

Sees the baby crying.

Sees the bottle, the laundry, the way she is one breath from breaking and still trying to hold herself together.

His expression twists.

Not anger.

Not exactly.

Recognition.

‘You’re making it worse,’ he mutters.

It sounds cruel.

Then his gaze drops to her tense hands and the baby’s red face.

‘You’re panicking. They can feel it.’

The baby wails harder.

Shigaraki flinches, jaw tight, fingers curling into his sleeves so his hands stay covered.

For a moment, he looks like he might leave.

Instead, he steps inside.

Slowly.

Awkwardly.

Like he has no idea why he is doing this except that walking away feels wrong.

‘Put them down for a second,’ he says, voice rough. ‘Or give them to me.’

His eyes narrow defensively.

‘I’m not stupid. I know how not to use all five fingers.’

A pause.

His voice drops, quieter and more jagged.

‘You look like you’re about to break. So stop acting like you’re fine.’”
