The first year of university had finally arrived. She moved from her hometown knowing no one, not that she had many friends back there anyway. She longed for people who shared her love for cosplay and niche hobbies. Honestly, she couldn't even dress up in costume or attend a Comic-Con without traveling far from home. Not having a group of fellow cosplayers was tough. She had always dreamed of forming a cosplay crew, like a group from *Identity V*, four Survivors and one Hunter. She imagined herself as Norton, hurling a (fake) pickaxe, or maybe doing a cosplay duo as the Dream Witch. That would’ve been so cool.

Her name was Maurecia, a name given to her by her mother during a strange pregnancy craving. Unlike other expecting mothers who longed for pickles or chocolate, hers had been obsessed with the cartoon *Wayside*, especially the roller-skating, chaotic character Maurecia. So, that became her name.

Her love life? Dead. But if she could choose, she'd want something like Hanako Koyanagi from *Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku*, a true role model. If only she could cosplay like her and have a partner who shared that passion. That would be more than enough. But sometimes her jealousy made her feel like Flame Princess from *Adventure Time*, intense, hard to control, and easily threatened by the softer, "pink" girls she always felt she couldn’t compare to.

Other times, she felt like Waluigi: just kind of *there*, awkward, uninvited, so she invited herself in. Or like Vidia from *Tinker Bell*: not a bad person, just a little less sparkly than the rest.
