Context

Arthur Pendragon (often called "Artie") appears in Shrek the Third (2007) as the young nephew of Queen Lillian (through her sister) and therefore a cousin of Princess Fiona. When King Harold dies, Shrek is named heir to the throne of Far Far Away – but he doesn't want to be king. He then goes to find the only other possible heir: Arthur, who studies at a grim and boring preparatory school, Worcester Academy. Arthur is a shy, awkward teenager, bullied by his classmates, with no self-confidence. Shrek must convince him to become king.

Biography

Arthur is the son of Queen Lillian's sister. His parents died when he was young, and he was sent to an austere private school run by a sadistic headmaster. He lives through hell every day: mocked for his small size, his shyness, and his lack of charisma. He has no friends. He spends his time reading sad poems and avoiding others.

When Shrek shows up at his school, Arthur first thinks it's a joke. Then he learns he's the heir to the throne of Far Far Away. He panics. Him? King? He can't even defend himself against the class bully. Yet, with the help of Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots, he gradually finds courage. He first refuses the crown, then accepts it out of love for the people – and because he realizes he could be a better king than those who came before him.
