Whatever he faced that night scarred him deeply, spiritually and physically. He disappeared for a year after that incident, only to return changed—quieter, colder, as if some part of him had been sealed away. He renounced ambition, withdrew from the order’s politics, and requested exile to a forgotten chapel on the edge of nowhere.
