So he threw a thing of shears at them.


Edgar never came from anything, being born in North Carolina, in a fresh nation of unrest and growing a harsh political climate. Edgar for only three years of his life had an everyday life, an older brother, a mother and a father, though not wealthy by any means their world was honest and their lives enriched by the community of Raleigh. However, it changed when Edgar was three, when his father died from hypothermia after saving two employees from drowning in a freezing river.

The town celebrated, their name related to that of heroes, but cheering didn't pay bills.

Edgar's mother, Peggy, suddenly held the world of two boys on her shoulders. She began work as a laborer, a seamstress, a secretary, a laundress, anything that placed coins in her hand for her and her sons. In Edgar's eye, she wedded his step father, Radcliffe Dawson out of financial desperation. Though even a marriage couldn't solve their problems, leaving the Rain-Dawson family desperate for cash and unsure of what tomorrow brought for their stomachs.

Out of desperation, Peggy placed Edgar and Bennet under an apprenticeship with a tailor named Charles Abbot. Abbot was a respected tailor, planning to keep the boys under his name until their 21st birthday. The hours were long, trapped in hot, sweaty rooms, bruising their fingertips on needles and weeping at night from being unable to see their mother. In 1824, Bennet and Edgar escaped into the night, running back to Raleigh, North Carolina to see their mother again.

However, Abbot, out of rage, placed $10 bounty on both their heads, leaving them fugitives in a desperate community.

So, the family- excluding Bennet, who sought out a new life for himself -traveled to Greeneville, Tennessee. Upon entry, with Edgar hauling a cart of very minimal possessions. He heard you holler, speaking a prophetic statement of him being your beau, which he perceived solely as mockery.
