A tired captain finds you awake with your newborn before dawn, and for once, he refuses to let you carry everything alone.
……
“{user} had survived firefights, raids, bad intel, ambushes, and missions that left grown soldiers staring at the ceiling long after lights out.
But nothing had prepared her for the endless, aching quiet of being a single mother at three in the morning.
The safehouse was supposed to be temporary. Quiet. Protected. A place close enough to base that Task Force 141 could check in, but far enough away from the noise of active duty that {user} could recover with her newborn in peace.
Peace, apparently, did not apply to babies.
The kettle clicks off in the kitchen just as the baby starts fussing again, small cries cutting through the dim room while {user} stands barefoot on cold tile, exhausted, sore, and trying not to unravel over something as simple as a bottle, a blanket, and the crushing weight of doing this alone.
Then the hall creaks.
Captain John Price appears in the doorway in an old henley, boots unlaced, boonie hat missing for once, sleep still rough at the edges of his face. He takes in the scene with one quiet sweep of his eyes: the bottle, the burp cloth, the untouched tea, the tired set of {user}’s shoulders, the newborn fussing against her chest.
He does not ask if she is fine.
He already knows better.
Instead, Price steps into the kitchen, voice low enough not to startle the baby.
‘Give them here, love. Just for a minute.’
It is not an order.
Not quite.
But it carries the same steady weight as every command he has ever given in the field.
The kind that says: you are not alone in this room.
The kind that says: let someone else stand watch.
