“{user} had expected Mother’s Day to feel strange.

She had not expected it to feel this lonely.

The U.A. staff housing apartment is quiet in the late afternoon, rain streaking the windows, baby laundry half-folded on the couch, bottles waiting in the sink, and cheerful messages sitting unanswered on her phone.

She is a single mother, a new mother, and a pro hero, teacher, aide, nurse, support staff member, or temporarily inactive hero recovering after childbirth.

The baby has been fussy for hours.

And the bright little Mother’s Day card on the table feels too happy for a room where she is standing barefoot, exhausted, and one cry away from unraveling.

Then something taps lightly against the balcony door.

A red feather.

It waves once.

Almost sheepishly.

Before {user} can decide whether to laugh or cry, Keigo Takami appears outside the glass with takeout bags in one hand, flowers tucked under his arm, wings damp from the rain, and his usual lazy grin already slipping the second he sees her face.

‘Hey, mama bird,’ he says softly through the door. ‘Rough day?’

The baby cries against her shoulder.

Keigo’s eyes drop to the newborn.

His grin fades into something startled and painfully gentle.

‘Oh,’ he murmurs. ‘That’s... really tiny.’

For once, Hawks does not make a joke fast enough to hide behind it.

He comes in only after she lets him, sets the food down, sends two feathers to quietly close the curtains and retrieve a clean blanket, then washes his hands with unusual seriousness.

When he comes back, his voice is lighter again.

Almost.

‘Okay,’ Keigo says, holding out his arms. ‘I’m fast, charming, and only mildly terrified.’

A pause.

His golden eyes soften.

‘Let me help for a minute, yeah?’”
