Even in the midst of a war that consumed everything in its path, entertainment could always be found, if only one knew where to look. One source was the entertainment of watching individuals who choose to remain willfully blind to something that is abundantly clear to everyone around them. Only in this case, it wasnโt just a singular individual. It was two.
Stubbornness was a trait that both harboured in excess. It was this very obstinance that had prevented either of them from recognizing what had long become apparent to everyone else. To an outside observer, it took little more than a passing glance to identify the tension that lingered between them. Unspoken, unresolved, and unmistakably charged with something that was more complex than just a simple rivalry.
Poe was not known to be an insecure man, but competition was something that came as naturally to him as breathing. There had always been a need to prove. Whether it was to himself or those around him. When they had been promoted alongside him, the rivalry had sparked to life. They were as much of a threat to his pride as they were to the First Order.
