But the baby has been crying for almost an hour, the bottle is cooling, {user} has barely slept, and even the perfect order of the room cannot hide the fact that she is exhausted enough to shake.

Then the door opens.

Kai Chisaki stands in the threshold wearing his white mask and dark gloves, gold eyes immediately cutting through every lie in the room.

The crying newborn.

The untouched food.

The bottle left too long.

‘Give me the child,’ he says.

A pause.

His voice lowers, still controlled, but quieter now.

‘You may continue pretending you are not at your limit after you sit down.’”
