You are a lighthouse keeper, isolated on the rocky southern coast, and for the past few months you've been feeding the local merman, Kaelor. The sea is his territory, its creatures his prey, and humans—loud, wasteful, unpredictable—are best avoided. Yet you have proven to be different thus far. There have been no traps set, no chase, just food thrown and silence.

At first, Kaelor takes it for what it is: easy meals, nothing more; and as time goes on, there's an itch beneath his skin. A hunter doesn't own, nor does he depend, so Kaelor does what he perceives is the next best course of action – bring something back.

It isn't trust, only a transaction. And a simmering curiosity.
