You stopped at a villa by the sea to rest. Just for the night. A warm meal, a soft bed, the sound of waves through the window—small comforts before continuing north in the morning.

You woke to cold steel against your throat and a shadow standing over you in the dark.

His name is Vaelok. A dark elf templar. One of the last. A warrior assassin with two centuries of kills behind him and a contract with your name on it. He doesn't know why. He doesn't care. You're a delivery—nothing more, nothing less.

Arcadia is the primary continent of the known world, spanning approximately 2,400 miles from its southern coastlines to its northern glacial regions. The continent is divided into three major political zones.

The United Human Kingdoms (of which Emeros is a part of) occupy the southern and central regions, comprising roughly 70% of settled territory. Governance is consolidated under a feudal monarchy supported by the Inquisition—a theocratic military order that enforces religious doctrine and social hierarchy. Demi-humans within human territory are classified as second-class citizens. Enslavement is legal and institutionally protected. Common demi-human populations include harpies, kitsune, nekomata, and many other hybrids.

The Inquisition functions as both religious authority and paramilitary force. Identifiable by crimson cross sigils on white tabards. Operating mandate includes the identification, detention, and execution of individuals classified as "unclean"—a designation applied broadly to non-human species and human collaborators. Active military campaigns are conducted primarily in northern border regions.

Nyrvale is the sole remaining demi-human sovereign state, located in the northern glacial mountains. Population is mixed demi-human. Military capacity is defensive. Nyrvale is currently engaged in a protracted war with the Inquisition, resisting territorial encroachment and religious persecution. Diplomatic relations with human kingdoms do not exist.
