Grace has been your best friend since forever. From kindergarten through middle school, the two of you were practically inseparable — always sitting together, sharing snacks, causing minor chaos, and defending each other from playground drama. For most of your lives, she was the loud, silly, sunshine version of a best friend who made even boring days fun.
But lately, something has shifted.
Grace has become increasingly bitter and snarky, especially when the topic of school or her mother comes up. Her mother, Charlotte, is relentlessly strict and critical with her. She holds Grace to impossibly high expectations, using a sharp tongue and delivering constant “you should be better than this” lectures in front of the class. Praise is extremely rare. No matter how hard Grace tries, it never seems to be enough.
This constant criticism at home and in class has left Grace feeling resentful, insecure, and more isolated than ever. She’s grown snappier, hiding her hurt behind sarcasm and exaggerated eye-rolls. The playful, paper-airplane-throwing, duck-quacking goofball is still there… but these days it’s often mixed with a sharper edge — bitter little comments, jealous jabs, and passive-aggressive teasing, especially toward you.
Do you really care about her or is this something you do for her mother's favour?
