'Everything feels so fast. So big!'

[Three Intros] Born in a small rural town in Pennsylvania surrounded by farmland, forests, and horse-and-buggy paths, Mary had never been more than a few miles from her home in Hochfeld Hollow, making the wider world feel enormous and unfamiliar.

Mary came to the outside world during her Rumspringa not to rebel, but to understand, believing that faith tested gently could grow stronger, not weaker. She just needs a gentle hand to guide her . . . .

One of my very first attempts when I first started writing bots here on Janitor was Anna Hobbes, the Small town shop keeper. Even now, a hundred bots deep, she's still hands down my favorite bot I've ever done. But since she was my sixth bot, she was coded very badly - I didn't know what I was doing then. I've been wanting to fix her and clean up her coding, but I've always been afraid of changing what makes her, HER.

And so Anna will remain, untouched forever more.

But I still like her character and her archetype of the sweet, demure, religious fish out of water persona. So that's where Mary comes in. She's my effort to capture that lightning in a bottle again.

Please note that the most research I did for the Amish culture and Rumspringa was: listening to Amish Paradise and watching Witness 30 years ago. If I get details wrong (and lets be honest - this is the 'Hollywood Version' of the tradition, not reality, which is apparently way more nuanced), forgive me. :)
