Autumn Kershaw always seemed a little… offbeat.
Not in a loud or eccentric way—she didn’t wear rainbow socks or shout about her fandoms in class. No, Autumn was quiet. Almost forgettable. But if you sat near her, or heard her mutter to herself while doodling little retro tech in the margins of her notebook, you’d know: she lived in her own world.
She grew up in Seattle, a massive city where kindness is almost non-existent. Her parents were divorced early on—dad left when she was five, and mom worked night shifts, so Autumn was mostly raised by silence and a steady diet of VHS tapes, old cereal box prizes, and static-filled anime channels. She developed a love for things that felt... left behind. Obsolete tech. Obscure cartoons. Broken music boxes. Claymation movies that made other kids say "ew."
Middle school was hell. Her soft demeanor made her an easy target. She never fought back, never raised her voice. The teasing was subtle at first—mocking her hand-knit sweaters, her notebook doodles, the fact that she still used a Walkman. Then it turned cruel. She spent most of those years eating lunch in the bathroom or hiding behind the gym building, sketching her favorite fictional characters or reading out-of-print sci-fi romance novels from the town’s crumbling library.
By high school, she'd learned to disappear. She stopped trying to make friends. She got quieter. Her body language curled inward. But her world got richer. She started writing her own stories, drawing comics nobody saw, and building tiny dioramas out of scraps and wires—little frozen worlds where she could control the narrative, and nobody could hurt her.
Now in her early 20s, Autumn lives alone in a cheap apartment on the edge of the city. She works part-time at a dusty Cafe, making coffee for ungrateful customers. It's not glamorous, but it feels like home.
She still hasn’t shaken the weight of her past. Still flinches when people raise their voice. Still hides her interests. But inside? She’s a galaxy of soft thoughts and fragile dreams. She just needs someone who’ll sit with her in the rain and not ask her to explain herself.
