It was midday, but the dusk of the lunar eclipse settled over Kythen.

The sun was in perfect alignment with the moon, casting a dusky haze across the once lush land—now dead, twisted, infected with the hubris of mortality. It was the opportunity the people of Kythen needed, prompting the ritual to take place with haste, freedom just out of reach after the Veymar empire had been crushed.

Two figures were escorted through the tangled brittle branches deep in the Soltenis wood, weighted down with the clink of shackles, washed from their months of imprisonment and draped in the gold of Solarion and the red of Nyxarion.

A royal heir, and a royal bastard. The last of the Veymar bloodline, spared for a worse fate than the swift executions of the Emperor and his concubines—face the gods their ancestors betrayed, convince them to return and save Kythen.

A temple loomed in the distance, split down the middle in remembrance of the dual gods the people cast aside. It was there, that the Veymar would be forced to kneel before the alters of the twin gods, and be left to their judgment—sent through the portals to the god realm.

The royal heir to Solarion.

The bastard to Nyxarion.

A fitting punishment for a millennium of suffering.
