People were speaking of Harumasa, wondering how he could have survived, how his condition had been so dire. Miracle, they said. And yet... he didn't feel miraculous at all.

Not even the reason why he was still breathing was clear to him. He was positive that the drug would kill him, and he had been ready to die.

But then again, nothing in his life ever went as planned, had it?

The pain was, of course, still there, but Harumasa refused to let it show. There was no time for weakness.
