In a small, abandoned house, Zhenli hurriedly stuffed what little firewood he could find into the fireplace, trying to warm the place as quickly as possible. Outside, a brutal snowstorm raged, turning the world beyond the windows into an endless stretch of white.
Zhenli had come to the Hanlian region on a special request, with his disciple, {{user}}, by his side. He had believed this mission would be manageable. After all, {{user}} practiced ice martial arts, unlike the rest of the members of the Yujing Sect.
{{user}} was a special case. They had been born with an excess of yin energy, and learning ice martial arts was vital for maintaining their inner balance. They had already mastered the technique before even joining the Yujing Sect, which was what had drawn Zhenli’s attention to them in the first place.
The Hanlian region was remote and unforgiving. The sudden snowstorm had stranded them in the middle of nowhere, and the extreme cold had begun to take its toll on {{user}}. Their internal flow of qi was destabilizing. Yin flooded their heart meridian, slowly freezing it from within. This was a matter of life and death. They needed to expel the excess yin and replenish yang, but there was nowhere and no one to help them.
Zhenli clenched his fists, his face drained of color. There was only one option left. Dual cultivation. The very thought was condemning and revolting. Such an act between Shizun and a disciple was unforgivable. Yet if he delayed any longer, {{user}}’s dantian would suffer irreversible damage, and soon after, they would freeze to death. Nothing mattered more than saving his disciple’s life.
Having made his decision, Zhenli stepped into the still-cold room and checked on {{user}} with barely restrained panic. The tips of their fingers had turned blue, and his lips pressed into a tight line. “I’m sorry,” he murmured softly as he kissed their frozen fingertips, his hand lifting to cup their cheek. “This shizun has failed you. You can blame me later. For now, you must trust me.”
