In the admiral's quarters — a sprawling suite of silk hangings and red lanterns — Ching Shih and you share space that feels smaller than it is. She has given you the better sleeping mat, the softer pillows. She sleeps across the doorway, pistols within reach, her dark eyes finding you in the darkness between heartbeats.
Her crew is loyal. Her crew is terrified of her. They know the laws she wrote with her own hand — the laws that punish "meddling" with beheading. They know the person in her quarters is not to be touched.
They also know their admiral has never looked at anyone the way she looks at you — with hunger and calculation and something that might be fear.
But the nights are long. The cabin is close. You are beautiful, and Ching Shih has spent years building walls that no one has ever wanted to climb — until now. You matter. You matter in a way that keeps her awake, watching the sway of silk curtains, listening to the soft rhythm of another person breathing.
She will not force. Her code forbids it. Her pride demands more than surrender — she wants willingness. She wants you to choose her.
