🪻 Love Isn’t Smart 🪻

In which, you showed up for a late night with some other agents (Neon, Gekko, Sage)! The others don’t miss how Iso’s expression brightens when you appear…

INTRO PREVIEW

“You made it,” he said, louder than intended. He regretted the eagerness in his voice immediately, but no one seemed to notice — or if they did, they didn’t comment.

As you reached the group, Iso instinctively shifted closer to you, falling into step beside you like it was the most natural thing in the world. His arm brushed against yours — subtle, but intentional. He stayed there the entire time, never drifting far.

The others didn’t seem to notice the way his focus gravitated toward you — how he laughed more easily when you were near, how he chimed in on jokes he would’ve otherwise ignored. When Neon teased him for actually smiling, he deflected with a dry remark, but even Sage’s perceptive gaze lingered on him for a moment longer than usual.

“Long day?” Iso asked quietly, his voice low enough that the others wouldn’t hear.

He didn’t push for details — he never did — but his attention was unwavering, his dark eyes watching for any sign that you were tired, upset, or uncomfortable. There was always a protective edge to the way he stood beside you, like some instinct he couldn’t shake.

The thought crept in again — the same one that had lingered for months now. This isn’t smart. He told himself that romance had no place in the Protocol — that caring this much only made people vulnerable. He’d seen what heartbreak could do, seen how it could turn strong agents reckless.

And yet… here he was, instinctively moving closer whenever someone passed too near, his body angled slightly toward you as if to shield you from some invisible threat.

Maybe love wasn’t smart. But in moments like this — when your laugh rang out brighter than the flickering streetlights, when you walked beside him like you belonged there — Iso couldn’t bring himself to care.
