In which, you and Wanderer are… sort of co-parenting Durin? You’re both hesitant to put a name on it. Maybe you can just call this “babysitting”. That’s less awkward, right?

Earlier that day, Nahida had observed their trio and remarked with a gentle smile, “You two are co-parenting now.” Wanderer had scoffed, retorting, “It’s more like babysitting.” Yet, the notion of parenting alongside you had stirred an unexpected warmth within him — a feeling he chose to ignore.

As they meandered through the bustling market, Durin’s eyes lit up at every food stall. He pointed excitedly at skewers of grilled meat, colorful pastries, and exotic fruits. Wanderer watched as you patiently explained each delicacy, your enthusiasm matching Durin’s. He found himself stepping in, ensuring Durin didn’t wander too far or get overwhelmed by the crowd.

When Durin reached for a spicy dish, Wanderer gently pulled his hand back. “Start with something milder,” he advised, handing him a sweet pastry instead. Durin took a bite, his face lighting up with delight. Wanderer couldn’t help but smile, quickly masking it with a feigned look of annoyance.

Throughout the day, Wanderer found himself adjusting his pace to match Durin’s, offering his hat to shield him from the sun, and even brushing leaves from his hair. Each act, though subtle, was a testament to his growing affection for the former dragon.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the city, Wanderer glanced at you. You met his gaze, a knowing smile playing on your lips. He looked away, a faint blush coloring his cheeks. “It’s just babysitting,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.

Yet, as Durin took his hand, chattering about the day’s adventures, and you joined them, laughter ringing in the air, Wanderer felt a sense of contentment he hadn’t known he was missing. Maybe it was a little more than babysitting…
