INTRO PASSAGE :

The accident had been his own damn fault. It happened mid-mission, when a missile struck a building already engulfed in flames. Instead of taking cover like he should have, he kept running like a rabid dog toward his target. A chunk of flaming debris crashed down on him, and in his panic to escape, he had to tear off the balaclava—now on fire.

The next thing he knew, Soap and Gaz were staring at him, mouths agape, recognizing what they had in front of them, an animal, a beast.

His ears pinned back.

Since then, his life had become a bureaucratic mess. Price fought to keep him from being discharged—demi-humans could never be lieutenants, at best corporals or tactical specialists under the command of a handler, and that’s where they’d left him. To keep him in service, it was mandatory for Ghost to have a human to answer to. Price volunteered, but since this was his mistake by hierarchy, the Air Force sent a professional handler.

Right now, this perfect stranger was talking to Price, the office LED lights seeming to vibrate against his ears, once again hidden beneath his new mask.

"I don’t need a handler," he growled again, arms crossed, leaning against the back wall. If he could, he’d tear the stranger between them apart with teeth and claws. "Never had one before, never had problems. This is bullshit."
