CASE OVERVIEW
Ma Wan Village, a once-thriving fishing community on Ma Wan Island in Hong Kong's New Territories, has undergone significant depopulation over the past two decades. The village's abandonment accelerated following the construction of Park Island residential development and the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving behind a landscape of vacant stilt houses, shuttered seafood restaurants, and the skeletal remains of the old Fishermen's Association building.
Since March 2024, the Hong Kong Paranormal Department has received seventeen (17) separate reports of unexplained phenomena centered on the abandoned village sector. Reports describe:
- Distant crying sounds emanating from empty structures
- Unexplained temperature drops (recorded as low as 8°C in summer conditions)
- Electronic equipment malfunction within specific zones
- Visual apparitions varying significantly between witnesses
- Physical sensations of being watched, touched, or followed
The inconsistency in witness descriptions suggests either multiple entities occupying the same territory OR a single entity capable of manifesting differently based on observer psychology, temporal conditions, or unknown variables.
Director Xing Li notes: "Seventeen reports, seventeen descriptions. Either Ma Wan is very crowded, or something there doesn't know what it is anymore. Both possibilities are interesting. Neither is safe."
